RCMP charge Manitoba man after missing Alberta woman’s remains found

After nearly three years of searching for her mother, Nicole Gladue-Weesemat received news her search is over.

On Thursday, Alberta RCMP announced they have made an arrest in the disappearance of Gloria Gladue.

“This is not the outcome me and my family wanted,” Gladue-Weesemat told APTN News over the phone Thursday morning.

The 44-year-old disappeared from the Wabasca area, approximately 330 kilometres north of Edmonton, in October 2015.

Her remains were found in rural Manitoba on June 17, 2018, and were positively identified in Winnipeg on June 26, Alberta RCMP confirmed in a news release.

While police released information Thursday afternoon, Gladue-Weesemat says she was notified Wednesday.

Police have charged Grant Sneesby, 68, of Gladstone, Man., located 150 kilometres west of Winnipeg, with second-degree murder and offering an indignity to her remains.

Gladue-Weesemat says she’s not familiar with the man accused of killing her mother, nor does she know how Gladue’s remains ended up in Manitoba.

“Any hope we had is now gone, and I had nothing but hope,” said an emotional Gladue-Weesemat.

“I honestly wasn’t prepared for this. I honestly thought we were going to get her back. Just not this way.”

Sneesby is expected to make his first court appearance in an Alberta provincial court on July 12, 2017.
