Thunder Bay police seek help identifying suspects after eggs thrown at Indigenous men

APTN News
Thunder Bay police are investigating after two Indigenous people had eggs and other objects thrown at them from passing vehicles.

The victims were both men and one was taken to hospital with injuries. Police say the incidents – reported separately on Wednesday night – are criminal acts of assault.

Investigators are seeking the public’s help in this investigation.

“A lot of times in these types of incidents it’s really difficult to find the person or the vehicle connected to the incident because it happens so fast and the person walking down the street is taken by surprise,” said Const. Julie Tilbury.

While charges in these cases are rare, they are not isolated or uncommon.

Last year, teenager Brayden Bushby was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Barbara Kentner.

He’s alleged to have hit the 34-year-old First Nations woman with a trailer hitch as she walked down a Thunder Bay street.

Bushby’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September.

Meanwhile, police advise anyone who witnesses a drive-by incident to get descriptions of the vehicle and report it.

What kind of thinking goes into justifying that it is okay, humorous even, to throw eggs, garbage, full pop cans, and anything else at a walking, breathing Human being? You got me? I don’t know where this phenomena started but it now seems like a rite of passage for people in Thunder Bay.

  3. This is going to be a year like no other for Thunder Bay.

I imagine news agencies, that in the past avoided Thunder Bay, will be showing up.

The time is now, right now, Thunder Bay. Get it together. You have so many good people, you have no excuse not to come together as a community. You need to know that Canada is paying attention. Just go for it. Figure out where the heck things went so south and begin to heal.

  5. What a racist hellhole Thunder Bay seems to be. Even their local paper the Thunder Bay Chronicle seems to think these attacks on indigenous people are funny, with headlines making jokes that these egg tosses are scrambling the police. Get it? Yeah, real funny.
