Thunder Bay police are investigating after two Indigenous people had eggs and other objects thrown at them from passing vehicles.
The victims were both men and one was taken to hospital with injuries. Police say the incidents – reported separately on Wednesday night – are criminal acts of assault.
Investigators are seeking the public’s help in this investigation.
“A lot of times in these types of incidents it’s really difficult to find the person or the vehicle connected to the incident because it happens so fast and the person walking down the street is taken by surprise,” said Const. Julie Tilbury.
While charges in these cases are rare, they are not isolated or uncommon.
Last year, teenager Brayden Bushby was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Barbara Kentner.
He’s alleged to have hit the 34-year-old First Nations woman with a trailer hitch as she walked down a Thunder Bay street.
Bushby’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September.
Meanwhile, police advise anyone who witnesses a drive-by incident to get descriptions of the vehicle and report it.
