Provincial police have confirmed the two death investigations in Cat Lake First Nation on Wednesday night as a double homicide.
The victims have been identified as Isaac Gray, 51, and Tyrese Shakakeesic, 18, both of Cat Lake.
Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services arrested Austin Wesley, 18, on Dec. 6 and he’s since been charged with two counts of second degree murder, two counts of uttering threats and one count of assault.
Sources told APTN National News that Gray is the accused’s father and that both victims were shot inside Gray’s residence.
Post mortems for the deceased are scheduled in Kenora on Dec. 8 and 9.
Wesley remains in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 11 in Kenora.
A spokesperson for Chief Ernie Wesley told APTN the community was in “complete disarray” following the tragic deaths.
