  1. Keith says:

Why can we not trade within our own boarders – I mean we can not leave the reserve to sell our goods like the Hudderites do on the side of the road? We get charged or taxed heavily! This goes for fish, sweet grass, meat, tobacco, hides, anything our first nations need to sell to become self sufficient! It is a disgrace to me to see we cannot even trade in our own country! The Federal Government has to take a good look at how trade is conducted in Turtle Island!

  3. The statements by the ministers sound promising on several levels. I hope that this will be the government who actually empowers the indigenous people and supports them in becoming truly self supporting and self governing. It is time!
Indigenous people are clever, intelligent and resourceful. It is time that Canada allowed them to shake off the bonds of colonialism and to become fully engaged citizens of this Canada, complete with all the rights, contributions and responsibilities of all other citizens. No more “Big Brother”! Allow the indigenous people of Canada to participate in self-government and solve the issues of their communities in their own way, using their resourcefulness and wisdom. It’s time!

  5. In 2014–15, First Nation tax exemptions on PST, HST and GST were worth roughly $237 million; personal income tax exemptions were $251 million; and fuel tax exemptions were $97 million. Tobacco tax exemptions were worth an incredible $686 million for total nearly $1.3 billion in a single year alone.

Instead of taxing your own citizens, how many tens of billions of dollars did you squander over the decades instead of addressing water issues, housing, education, etc.

    1. I think it is time for a different dividing up of the Inuit and Indian pie. I would like a million dollars out of the 12 billion dollars to take care of my own Indian affairs. I am a registered Mikmaq with Inuit Labrador ancestral roots and I feel like a refugee in my own country while the leadership lives high off the hog…of course they all want to be reelected…who wouldnt?
