They held out as long as they could, but the fires around Williams Lake, British Columbia came too close.

By the start of the weekend, the one highway running south was jammed with people fleeing the flames.

As of today, there are approximately 36,000 displaced people, and eleven emergency shelters trying to deal with the growing number of evacuees.

“It hasn’t been fun because I’ve just been imagining everything we could lose,” said evacuee Valerie Diamond. “I mean everything I own is in that house and we don’t know where we can go we have a lot of family but I want my home!”
