A Metis woman living in Edmonton is poised to share her talents with the world.
Geraldine Carriere, originally from the Metis settlement of Cumberland House in Saskatchewan, is a multitalented artist.
She is a singer, songwriter, dancer author, and painter.
Currently, she is working on her debut album and is writing her first novel called “Wild Woman.”
“What Wild Woman is talking about is the roles women are forced to live in,” she said. “And what it does, it allows them to create a new version of themselves. With Wild Woman I would like to build that into programming that would empower women. It would be a different kind of woman. One that is mythical, nomadic, matrilocal and intuitive.”
Her self-titled album featured the song Wild Woman that she wrote herself.
“I’ve been singing forever, so I’m finally sharing this side of myself to other people. It’s been something that I kept hidden and didn’t show people. Song writing. It’s something I’ve done forever. It’s exciting to get to share that with people.”
The year ahead looks busy for Carriere who will be hosting a Redx Talks session and will be singing at the World Indigenous Nations Games this summer. She will also be performing in Banff and Jasper for a month this summer.

“A group of artists and I are going to be performing what it is to be native at Parks Canada this summer. I will be performing Wild Woman. It’s going to be a little bit of acting, performing, singing, spoken word.
All into one thing that we are going to be performing to visitors to Canada.”
Going forward, Carriere wants to continue empowering women.
“You get a certain pride out of knowing that people recognize your work and you are able to impact that many more people and say, you know what? I can do this and so can you.”
