Independence from Aboriginal Affairs is worth fighting for, says Cold Lake First Nations councilor.

Walter Janvier joins Michael to talk about growing up near Cold Lake and investing money.

The Dene people of the Cold Lake First Nations have a unique history with Canada.
In the 1950s, part of the Dene’s traditional territory became the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range. A place where the Canadian Air Force could practice blowing things up. This had a direct impact on the traditional lifestyle of the Dene people and those impacts eventually formed the basis of a hard fought land claim
Tonight’s guest on Face to Face, Walter Janvier, grew up on those lands and had a love-hate relationship with the jets that screamed overhead. Now sitting on the Cold Lake First Nations’ council, he can also share with us how the community invested the money they earned by fighting for their lands.
I hope you enjoy this Face to Face.
