Elder feeds Winnipeg’s “swampers” lunch

Woman in Winnipeg has been feeding Winnipeg’s “swampers” lunch for past six years

APTN National News
This past fall, APTN Investigates told the story about Indigenous men being used as labourers to clean up Winnipeg’s streets, often for minimum wage.

They’re known in the community as “swampers.”

Concerns over safety and the use of temporary workers prompted the city to launch an investigation into the private garbage contractor – an investigation that is ongoing.

APTN Investigates Melissa Ridgen brought us that story.

Now she reports on a woman who, for the past six years, has been feeding these workers lunch.
