Mi’kmaq fishers on the East Coast are hoping a little star power will help in their fight against oil exploration in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Academy Award winning actor Ethan Hawke joined a number of voices against the exploration. For two years a Mi’kmaq, Maliseet and Innu coalition has been calling for a moratorium on drilling with no response from government.

The celebrity endorsement is raising public awareness on the potential dangers of drilling in the gulf.

APTN’s Trian Roache has the story.
