Pig liver saved Mohawk woman’s life 20 years ago today

APTN National News
Just before Christmas in 1994, something out of the ordinary saved Mavis “Connie” McArdle’s life – a pig.

When her liver failed, doctors hooked her up to a pig’s liver to clean her blood.

She was on it until the liver of a human donor became available.

“I am still here and I am still getting stronger and my aim is still be here in 20 years time,” said McArdle in 1994.

Friday, 20 years to the day, she was back at the very same hospital.

So why don’t they still do this for people? I just had a very good friend die from liver disease. This could have saved her, too.
