Federal court ruling could affect First Nation organizations across Canada

APTN National News
A federal court ruling could affect Aboriginal groups across the country.

At issue is an appeal of the 2012 Innu Nation election.

The group represents the two Innu communities in Labrador.

In a surprise move, the court ruled that even though the Innu nation is a non-profit organization, it is still subject to the same federal scrutiny as council elections.

Margaret Wente is the lawyer for the Innu Nation and joined APTN.
