Conflict looms on the Fraser

Last Wednesday, a third land-claim agreement negotiated under the British Columbia treaty process became law.

It was a triumph for members of the Yale First Nation, but it major troubles also loom as a result over a fishing spot used by both Yale and their neighbours to the south.

The two First Nations have been brawling, sometimes literally, over a portion of the Fraser River for decades.

To add to the confusion some argue that they are the same people and a court case has been launched to prove just that.
