The race for the position of national chief of the Assembly of First Nations is heating up.

The race for the position of national chief of the Assembly of First Nations is heating up.

The AFN election is happening in July in Toronto.

Already there are half a dozen candidates vying for the top job.

So far, the contenders for national chief are Ellen Gabriel, Terry Nelson, Joan Jack, Pam Palmater, Bill Erasmus and Shawn Atleo, the incumbent national chief.

Tuesday is the deadline for all candidates to submit their nomination forms.
