Forensic audit timing politically motivated: Nelson

News about a forensic audit on the Roseau River Anishinawbe First Nation has come to light a week before the reserve goes to the polls to vote for chief and council.

Some community members speculated that the current leadership tried to hide it until after the election.

But over the weekend, current Chief Terry Nelson widely distributed copies of the audit and had band employees take the documents to every home on the reserve.

Nelson says the timing of the audit was meant to coincide with the election. He believes Indian Affairs was hoping it would knock him out of the race for chief.
