Controversy continues to swirl around a Manitoba grand chief’s drunk driving conviction.

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Grand Chief Guy Lonechild recently pleaded guilty to drinking and driving.

Lonechild was charged by police a month before he was elected grand chief. The drunk driving charge, however, was kept secret.

Despite the conviction, Lonechild has refused to step down. Lonechild has also repeatedly rejected requests for an interview.

APTN National News spoke to activist and journalist Tyrone Tootoosis about the issue.
