Just days after agreeing to pay the largest penalty in Alberta’s environmental history, Syncrude is once again apologizing for the deaths of migratory birds on one of their tailings ponds.

The tar sands giant says more than 350 birds have died on the Mildred Lake Tailings basin. Shell and Suncor have also confirmed the deaths of dozens more.

This comes less than two years after 1,600 waterfowl died after landing in tailings ponds near Fort McMurray.
