Inquest called into US shooting of FN carver

News that not only informs, but inspires.

APTN National News
An inquest has been ordered into the fatal shooting of a well known First Nations carver from Vancouver Island.

A Seatlle police officer shot and killed John T. Williams on Aug. 30.

Williams was a member of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth tribe on Vancouver Island and is reportedly hard of hearing.

The officer, Ian Birk, approached Williams after spotting him with his carving knife.

Birk ordered Williams to drop the knife three times before shooting him dead.

Last week a coroner’s report said Williams had been shot four times in the side.

A judge and a six member jury will determine whether the shooting was justified or whether criminal charges against the police officer should be filed.

The inquest will be held within 90 days.
